University of the Pacific has launched a state-of-the-art audiology teaching hub on the sixth floor of its San Francisco Campus, significantly expanding resources for students in the Doctor of Audiology program. This move follows the repurposing of the first floor for the new Ambulatory Surgical Center and Multidisciplinary Advanced Care Clinic, designed to serve individuals with complex healthcare needs.
Expanding Learning Opportunities for Audiology Students
The newly renovated sixth floor, which opened to students and faculty on January 5, prioritizes student learning and collaboration. Associate Professor and Department Chair Gabriella Musacchia led the design, ensuring the space meets the needs of audiology students. Key features include expanded classrooms with natural lighting, open collaboration areas, and dedicated study rooms for group work.
One of the standout additions is the student simulation lab, where students can practice audiology skills using industry-standard technology. This hands-on experience is crucial for preparing students for real-world clinical settings.
Enhanced Facilities for Clinical Training and Research
The new space includes labs for fitting, testing, and monitoring hearing aids, as well as providing services to the community through the Pacific Hearing and Balance Clinic. Additionally, the floor features areas for faculty collaboration, research labs, and event spaces.
The expanded footprint addresses previous space limitations, allowing the program to better support its accredited cohort. For example, the simulation lab has quadrupled in size, and classroom capacities have increased, along with upgraded technology.
Student Perspectives on the New Space
Landyn Sadler ’28, a student in the audiology program, highlighted the benefits of the new facility. “The new space allows more students to complete their labs during school hours, reducing wait times and improving accessibility,” Sadler said. “It also provides additional areas for socializing and studying, enhancing the overall student experience.”
Accelerated Path for Aspiring Audiologists
University of the Pacific’s Doctor of Audiology program offers an accelerated path for students pursuing careers in audiology. The program emphasizes hands-on training, research, and community engagement, preparing graduates for leadership roles in healthcare.
