Record-Breaking Performance at the AIChE North Central Regional Student Conference

Trine University’s McKetta Department of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering students made a significant impact at the AIChE North Central Regional Student Conference held at Michigan State University. With the largest student representation among participating schools, Trine students showcased their expertise in various competitions and presentations, achieving remarkable success.

Jeopardy Champions

Trine University’s ChemE Jeopardy team emerged victorious, demonstrating exceptional knowledge and quick thinking. The team, comprising Isaac Braun, Natalie Crowner, Alyssa Keptner, and Caitlyn Glitsch, navigated through challenging rounds to secure a decisive win against formidable competitors from Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame. Their impressive performance earned them a spot in the National Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

Research Accolades

Trine students also excelled in individual research competitions. Alyssa Keptner won first place in the Technical Research Paper Competition for her work on biofuel optimization. Lydia Randolph and Taylor Early secured second and third places, respectively, in the Student Research Poster Competition for their projects on anti-microbial metal oxides and thermal degradation in recycled materials. The record number of Trine students presenting posters highlighted the department’s commitment to undergraduate research.

ChemE Car Competition

The Trine ChemE Car team faced challenges with battery voltage due to new reagents but still managed a commendable ninth-place finish. Senior leaders passed the baton to a new team under the leadership of Noah Glassman, Chloe Laird, and Caitlyn Glitsch, ensuring the continuation of Trine’s participation in this challenging competition.
