St. Thomas Aquinas College has added a Physical Education (All Grades) track to its Master of Science in Teaching (MST) program, set to begin in Fall 2026. The pathway is designed for individuals who want to obtain initial certification in physical education, especially those whose undergraduate degrees are not in education. The curriculum blends research‑based theory with hands‑on practice, preparing graduates to teach K‑12 students, design curriculum aligned with New York State standards, and promote lifelong physical activity.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and meet the College’s general graduate admission requirements. The pathway is open to those with backgrounds in physiology, biology, exercise science, kinesiology, or related fields. A strong foundation in core educational concepts is also required, which can be satisfied through the College’s B.S. in Educational Studies or by completing prerequisite courses.
National projections show a steady growth of more than 6% in physical education positions over the next five years. Graduates of the MST Physical Education pathway will be ready to fill roles in public, private, and charter schools across the United States, with a particular demand in the New York region.
St. Thomas Aquinas College offers an Educator Excellence Incentive for eligible students applying to the Fall 2026 cohort. The incentive includes a financial award of $10,000+ for applicants who submit their application by March 1, 2026. This award is part of the College’s “ADVANCE: Lifelong Learners” initiative, which aims to make high‑impact teacher preparation more accessible.
